Why are there Rolling Lockouts?

AFL Clubs now only have to announce their lineups the day prior to their match, as opposed to having a Thursday night deadline. This means that on Friday night, you won't know for sure who's playing on Sunday. Rolling lockout enables you to edit your team throughout the round, so that you don't get stuck with players who aren't playing.
